A brief overview of Riso Gallo history cannot miss!

You’re right, we’re one of the oldest rice-growing companies in Italy. Our history started out back in 1856 when the first factory was opened in Genoa. At the same time, another factory was opened in Argentina to meet the requirements of the South American market.

In the 1920s we decided to concentrate on Italian crops and so the factory was transferred to Robbio Lomellina in the heart of the province of Pavia, one of the most well known rice-growing areas, where it is still today.

How was the worldwide famous cockerel (Rooster) symbol created?

The symbol was created in the 1940s and marked a new chapter in the history of the company.

Since illiteracy was still widespread in Argentina, the company decided to identify the different varieties of rice by using simple images of animals on the sacks: a giraffe, a tiger, an elephant, a cockerel (rooster) and many others.

The cockerel (rooster), which identified the best variety, soon became the company symbol and synonymous with the high quality of its products.
