Elegant, sincere wines, an expression of their territory and of the passion of those who think about them

Italy, Abruzzo

Interview

ItalfoodOst vs Ciavolich

Ciavolich and Abruzzo, an ancient history?

Yes, the family bond with this territory dates back to 1500, when the family, of Bulgarian origin, moved to Miglianico, in Chieti. At the time the activity revolved around the wool trade, but in the mid-800, precisely in 1853, the first family winery was built, which was and continues to be one of the oldest winemaking facilities in Abruzzo. Even today we continue to produce wine with the seriousness and passion that has been handed down to us, trying to transfer our character into our bottles.

What are the peculiarities of your cellar?

Our wine comes from the vineyards that we grow in the estates of Loreto Aprutino and Pianella. Ciavolich has a strong agricultural component of which we are very proud: the care of the vineyards and the land that we respect by practicing an integrated agriculture is fundamental. The lines of wines are different: both contemporary and artisan and in all there are common characters such as elegance and frankness.

How many hectares of land does the Ciavolich winery have?

There are about 30 hectares of vineyards, divided between the estates of Loreto Aprutino and Pianella. The oldest vines are in Loreto that even today, and since the 60s, gives us our Montepulciano and Trebbiano which we are reproducing by mass selection. Next to the wine, we grow about 1,000 olive trees, from which we produce our special oil from Monocultivar Dritta.
