A DiVine Sip of the nectar of the Gods

Interview

ItalfoodOst vs Vinea Domini

How is Vinea Domini project born?

Vinea Domini project was born about 10 years ago, in one of the biggest and most historical cellars of Castelli Romani: Gotto d'Oro. Since the beginning, its objective has been to debunk the myths about wines from Lazio, to enhance and give them the right recognition they deserve. So, in 2007, we selected the vineyards dedicated to this new project and, after 10 years of meticulous work, finally, in 2017, we entered the market with the first year of our six international single vine varieties.

A short description of your terroir?

We are located South-East of Rome, in the Castelli Romani area, a hilly territory that takes advantage of a volcanic soil and good proximity to the sea. The combination of all these factors creates wines of great minerality, freshness and sapidity.

These lands are particularly vocated to grapevine cultivation: rich in potassium and phosphorus they confer fragrance to grapes and freshness to wines. The climate variability of this area and the volcanic characteristics of the soil create a unique and perfect microclimate for the cultivation of quality grapevines.

How have you articulated the wine range in the time?

As mentioned before, in 2017 we entered the market with six labels of international varieties. Then, in 2019, we implemented our range with four indigenous ones: Roma Bianco and Rosso DOCFrascati Superiore DOCG, and Cesanese del Piglio DOCG. Four successful wines, whose quality has been awarded many times. In 2020, to satisfy our customers' increasing demand, Malvasia del Lazio in purity and a 100% Sirah rosé wine have been produced and named after two typical Roman expressions: Friccicore and Luccicore respectively.
